Default Question of Breach of Conduct

Question and hopefully an Arena-Net staff member will answer.

would it be "Breach of Conduct" if u Used a botting program to spam frenzy while death leveling a Defender of Ascalon character?

because im not farming gold, im not selling in game gold or in game items for real cash, im just Farming death counts and EXP to level a perma pre character by the so called death leveling, without having to go AFK for 6 hours or sit infront of the computer for my better part of the day and spam frenzy myself.

i dont mind going AFK, i just wanted to know if this would be considered "Breach of Conduct"

I think the only ones who can answer that one for sure would be NCSoft support.

Anet wouldn't care, even if they could detect it. When they ban people for botting its because they are farming money/items. Technically it does break the rules of conduct, but those are more guidelines then rules since they can really just ban you whenever they feel like it. Just don't automate any more then pressing a number key once every few seconds and you will be fine.

So is it also ok to use a macro to click on a bottle of alcohol every minute?

Sorry to say but if you have something performing tasks (ie pressing the frenzy skill) for you while you are not at the keyboard then anet will consider it a Bot(in the exact sense of the word).

How serious they will consider it (after teh perma ban to 2 week ban fiasco the other week) is another question but I am sure frenzy being pressed ever x.xxx seconds for an extended period will ring bells on their "botometer" software ^.^.

People frequently use keystroke/ keyboard macros and bots to max the Drunkard title and I haven't seen or heard of anybody being banned for it. However, I'd sent a ticket to support and ask the question just to be on the safe side.

You can't get a helpful response from anet on the subject. The reason is that if they 'okayed' this form of macroing, then there would be 1000 questions on whether you could do x other macro, and so on and so forth. The best you can get is that a loooong time ago gaile said that botting was against the codes of conduct, but they weren't going to go after those who weren't negatively affecting the game (she was speaking about automating the drunkard title if i recall correctly). Anet recently unbanned the people who had been caught botting the HFF, and that's a bot that gives you like 10k an hour and people were leaving on all day. As far as negatively affecting the game you are doing far less then they were.

And I still say you couldn't be detected at all. From a programming standpoint keeping a list of EVERY action of EVERY player and constantly checking it to see if a set of actions is being done repeatedly would put a huge load on the servers. The main way Anet would find bots is to look for people entering and exiting an area constantly over a period of days, as well as checking botters that were reported ingame.

You may not use any third-party program (such as a "bot") in order to automate gameplay functions, including playing, chatting, interacting, or gathering gold or items within Guild Wars. You may not assist, relay, or store gold or items for other players who are using these processes.

by making this breach it discourages some botting and gold farming factory (they are really similar to sweatshops) also it allows the game to be about the game and not how much money i got in my pocket to blow on in game gold and such

That also is intended to prevent people buying services of other players to farm a title for you. Otherwise pay $50, have a pro PvPer get you rank x of pvp title you did nothing for. Such a service is already very popular in exchange for ingame money.

But yeah, some stuff is stupid. Telling someone your name being against the rules? I will eat my foot if someone actually gets banned for that.

The bottom line is really they can lawfully ban you no matter what you are doing. You play through their servers, they can refuse to let you connect at a whim.

Boting in any way, is NOT aloud. Use it at risks.

Can't you just assign a certain key (near the edge of your keyboard) to your Frenzy skill, press it in, put a piece of folded paper or whatever to keep it stuck and go afk?
Might ruin your battery if you have a cordless board, otherwise there really is no reason why they could ban you for that, it just happens to be a stuck key.
